The Bishop's Camp
2015 Dates — June 15 to July 31
Sheriff's visit

For seven weeks each summer, the Bishop's Camp provides a safe Christian learning environment for over one hundred children in our inner-city neighborhood. Our goal is to help these children maintain their reading skills over the summer break by providing daily one-to-one reading time with adult or teen volunteers. The camp provides classes in math, science, art, music, sports, and field trips, etc. and playtime in the afternoon. Through participation in the DISD summer food program, a free lunch and snack are also provided.
|
Kids at Bishop’s Camp love to read with their reading partners. These volunteers spend time reading with each child, individually every day. This helps them maintain important reading skills over the summer break and keeps them on track for school in the fall. |

Since no child is asked to pay a fee for attending Bishop's Camp, support for the camp is urgently needed. You can help make the camp possible by participating in the Bishop's Camp Golf Classic, which is held each year in September. There are limited slots available for our young campers. Every year we have children on a waiting list who want to participate, but don't get the opportunity unless a child leaves the program or fails to show up daily and opens up a slot for a child on the waitlist.
For more information about the Golf Classic, check out the Bishop's Camp website at www.bishopscamp.org. Volunteers are also needed to read with the children each day during camp, which is from June 15 to July 31 this year. To volunteer or find out more about how you can participate in Bishop's Camp, please contact Lourdes Mendez at lmendez@episcopalcathedral.org or call the Cathedral office. |
